The sterile white of the hospital room was a stark contrast to the vibrant world Mia and I had built within my mind. Sunlight, usually a harbinger of a new day filled with her laughter, now felt like an unwelcome intrusion, illuminating the emptiness that had settled around me like a shroud. Sixteen years. Sixteen years of her voice, her presence, her unwavering companionship, and now, only silence.
