Chapter 13
The First Rebirth
Trinity's life ended, and a new one began. She awoke with fragmented memories, a familiar unease stirring, but no clear recollection of the fae or the choice she had made. The curse had taken hold.
The world swam back into focus in a haze of soft, buttery light. It was morning, or perhaps it was always morning here. A gentle warmth seeped into my bones, a stark contrast to the chill that had settled deep within me just moments ago. Or was it moments? Time seemed to have unspooled, leaving behind only a vague, unsettling impression of a dream just out of reach.
My eyelids fluttered open, heavy and reluctant. The ceiling above was not the familiar, ornate plaster of my chambers, but a canopy of woven vines, dotted with blossoms that glowed with an inner luminescence. A faint ache throbbed behind my temples, a dull echo of something I couldn't quite grasp. My memories were like scattered shards of glass, reflecting fractured images: a dark forest, the scent of rain on earth, a desperate, whispered plea, a blinding flash of light, and then… nothing. A profound emptiness where a significant event should have been. It was as if a vital chapter of my life had been ripped from the pages, leaving a blank, unnerving space.
