Kael spoke of ancient feuds and the delicate balance between fae realms. He revealed the deep-seated enmity between his kind and Daxton's, explaining the danger Trinity had unwittingly stepped into.
The air in the small, hidden chamber hummed with a forgotten magic, thick with the scent of dried herbs and the lingering echo of Kael’s words. He lay propped against a bolster, his breathing still shallow, but his eyes, those startling pools of midnight, held a new intensity as he spoke. The flickering lamplight cast dancing shadows across his face, highlighting the sharp planes of his cheekbones and the faint tremor that still ran through his hands.
“They are not merely rival houses, Trinity,” Kael’s voice was a low rasp, each syllable a careful effort. “It is an animosity as old as the stars, a war woven into the very fabric of the realms. My kind, the Atris, and Daxton’s… we are the opposing threads, destined to clash until one unravels.”
I leaned closer, my heart a frantic drum against my ribs. The stories I’d been fed, the carefully curated history of the fae, spoke of alliances, of ancient pacts, never of such visceral hatred. “But Daxton… he spoke of unity, of a grand design.”
