Elder Elara stood on the precipice of the highest tower in the city of Veridia, the wind whipping at the silken threads of her ceremonial robes. Below, the city sprawled like a tapestry woven from starlight and polished obsidian, its spires reaching for the heavens, a testament to centuries of order and divine decree. But tonight, the stars seemed to offer little comfort. A tremor, subtle yet profound, had rippled through the very foundations of their existence, a disturbance that spoke of a forgotten echo returning, amplified and terrible.

She closed her eyes, her gnarled fingers tightening around the smooth, cool surface of the ancient obsidian orb she always carried. It pulsed faintly, a mirror reflecting not the present, but the distant, unsettling hum of an encroaching power. The whispers that had plagued her for weeks, dismissed by the council as the ramblings of an aging mind, now coalesced into a deafening roar within her soul. Lou John. The name, once a curse, now echoed with a chilling resonance, a harbinger of a future she had desperately tried to avert.

“It is coming,” she murmured, her voice barely audible above the wind’s mournful song. “The one we cast out. He returns, not as the broken thing we sent into the abyss, but as something… else.”
