The air, once thick with the scent of drying hay and blooming wildflowers, now carried a new, sharper aroma – the metallic tang of rain on dry earth. It started subtly, a gentle patter on the thatched roofs, a scattering of cool, fat drops on upturned faces. But with each drop, a shiver seemed to run through the village, not just from the chill, but from something deeper, something unsettling.

Lina, her small hand still clutching her worn sketchbook, tilted her head back, letting the rain kiss her cheeks. It felt different from the summer showers they were accustomed to. This rain felt heavy, deliberate. Beside her, Tomas, usually bouncing with restless energy, stood unnervingly still, his eyes fixed on the roiling mass of cloud that now dominated the sky like a bruised giant. Anya, her gaze distant, hugged herself, her brow furrowed as if she could hear the unspoken worries of every soul in the village.

"It's really here," Tomas finally whispered, his voice barely audible above the rising wind.
