The afternoon sun, usually so generous with its golden light, seemed hesitant today, casting long, watery shadows across the village green. Lina sat cross-legged in the shade of the old oak, her worn sketchbook open on her lap. Her pencil, a stubby piece of graphite worn smooth by her anxious fingers, danced across the page, capturing the impossible, swirling mass that dominated the sky. It wasn't just a cloud; it was a beast of bruised purples and angry greys, a silent, colossal entity that seemed to pulse with a life of its own.

Beside her, Anya traced the outline of a wilting daisy with a delicate finger, her brow furrowed. She hadn’t spoken much since the elders had begun their hushed, worried conversations, but Lina could feel the weight of Anya’s unease pressing down on her, like the heavy, humid air.

“Look,” Lina whispered, turning the sketchbook towards Anya. “It’s so… strange, isn’t it?”
