An argument erupts between Jonas and Marek, exposing their deep-seated rivalry. Their inability to cooperate highlights the village's fractured state as the storm intensifies.
The air in the village square grew thick, not just with the approaching rain, but with a tension that prickled the skin. The sky, a bruised and angry purple, seemed to press down, mirroring the unease settling in the hearts of the villagers. Lina, Tomas, and Anya, huddled near the old oak, watched as two figures, as solid and unyielding as the ancient trees themselves, squared off. Jonas, his weathered face set in lines of stubborn disapproval, stood opposite Marek, whose jaw was clenched, his eyes blazing with a familiar fire.
"This is madness, Marek," Jonas's voice, usually a low rumble, was sharp with exasperation. "We need every able body helping to secure the sheds. Not hoarding supplies like a squirrel preparing for a decade-long winter."
Marek scoffed, his arms crossed tightly over his chest. "And what do you know of preparation, Jonas? You who always relies on tradition and prayer. This storm, they say, is unlike any other. My family will be safe, whether you like it or not." He gestured vaguely towards his own sturdy cottage, its windows already shuttered tight.
