The silence in the opulent penthouse was a heavy shroud, a stark contrast to the cacophony of the city that pulsed far below. Cherri Sylvia, a ghost in her own life, moved through the gilded rooms like a shadow. Each step was measured, each breath shallow, as if the air itself was a luxury she couldn't afford. Tristan Moretti’s presence, even when he was absent, permeated the space. It clung to the expensive leather of the furniture, to the cool marble of the floors, to the very air she was forced to breathe. Her father’s hospital bills, a monstrous debt that had driven her to this precipice, felt like a phantom limb, an ache that never truly subsided.

She had been here for weeks now, a gilded captive. Tristan had kept his word, in his own twisted fashion. Her father’s medical expenses were being handled, the nurses whispering about miraculous payments and shifting insurance policies. He was rarely present, a phantom himself, his commands delivered through intermediaries, his desires communicated through the subtle shifts in the atmosphere of his domain. When he did appear, it was with a quiet intensity that made Cherri’s breath hitch. His eyes, the color of a storm-tossed sea, seemed to see through her, dissecting her every fear, her every desperate hope.

Tonight, however, the usual quiet hum of unease was fractured. A tension, sharp and metallic, had settled over the penthouse. The usual stoic guards at the entrance were replaced by men with harder edges, their gazes darting, their hands never far from their weapons. Cherri, tidying a stack of untouched art books in the study, felt a prickle of apprehension crawl up her spine. Something was wrong.
