Cherri stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, her reflection a pale ghost against the darkening sky. The rival's plan, laid bare in a series of coded messages intercepted by Tristan’s formidable network, was more audacious, more brutal, than they had initially feared. It wasn’t just an attempt to usurp Tristan’s reign; it was a calculated move to dismantle everything he had built, piece by agonizing piece, and Cherri, now inextricably linked to him, was a prime target.

Tristan watched her from his obsidian desk, his gaze a predator’s study. He’d seen her fear, had felt the tremor in her hands when she’d first learned the full scope of the danger. They want to sow chaos, make it look like we’re losing control.” He paused, his eyes narrowing. “And they plan to make an example of you.”
