From his celestial throne, higher than the tallest oak and older than the stones in the oldest riverbed, Jupiter watched. His gaze, sharp as a hawk’s and vast as the summer sky, swept over the land where Laima, the plum tree girl, walked her winding path. It was a path not of smooth pebbles and gentle slopes, but of sharp stones and steep inclines, a path that reminded him, in its arduous nature, of those who bore their own burdens for the sake of something greater. He saw her, a small figure against the immensity of the world, her golden hair like spun sunlight catching the wind, her spirit as determined as a sapling pushing through hardened earth.

Jupiter’s domain was one of order, of cosmic law, of the grand design that wove through the lives of mortals and gods alike. He was the watcher, the arbiter, the one who saw the threads of fate as they were spun and unraveled. And Laima’s thread, he noted, was a vibrant, resilient one, though it was currently being tested by forces as ancient and untamed as Perkūnas, the thunder god, whose rumbling chariots were already a distant promise on the horizon.

He remembered the time when the world was young, when the forests were deeper, and the gods walked closer to the earth. He had seen heroes rise and fall, empires crumble like dry leaves, and the quiet strength of individuals blaze like beacons in the darkest of times. Laima was one such individual. He saw the flicker of doubt in her eyes when she skirted the edges of the “Brahmanic salads,” those shimmering illusions that promised sweet nourishment but offered only emptiness. He felt her hesitation, a tiny tremor in the fabric of the world, as she approached the swamp, its dark waters a mirror to the uncertainties that lay coiled within every heart.
