Chapter 10
The Illusion of Safety
Kelly encounters a seemingly friendly alien who offers guidance. This alien, part of the guards' network, subtly tries to steer her towards the dangerous part of the forest, playing on her naivety.
The air on Lumina hummed with a gentle, melodic thrum, a constant serenade that had initially soothed Kelly’s frayed nerves. Now, it felt like a lullaby sung by a stranger, sweet but unsettling. She’d spent what felt like days, though time was a fluid concept here, exploring the vibrant, ever-shifting landscape. Each dawn brought new wonders: flowers that unfurled like jeweled fans, creatures that shimmered with bioluminescent patterns, and rivers that flowed with liquid starlight. It was a world painted by dreams, a stark contrast to the muted hues of her grief.

She’d managed to evade them, her small size and quick feet proving an advantage in the dense, whispering foliage. But the feeling of being watched, of a predator’s gaze, never truly left her.
She found herself near a clearing, where the trees, unlike the others, seemed to possess a peculiar, soft glow. A creature, no taller than her knee, with skin like polished amber and large, curious eyes the color of amethysts, was tending to a patch of plants that pulsed with a gentle light. It moved with an unhurried grace, its slender fingers coaxing blossoms from stems with a tenderness Kelly hadn’t seen since her mother.
