The air in the ancient amphitheater at Thera was thick with the scent of wild thyme and the ghosts of forgotten performances. Elias traced the curve of a fallen column, his fingers finding the smooth, cool stone as if searching for a lost memory. Elara stood a little apart, her gaze sweeping across the vast expanse of the Aegean, a restless energy humming beneath her composed surface. They had come seeking answers, a breadcrumb trail left by Elias’s ancestors, but the silence here was heavy, pregnant with an unspoken threat.

“It’s beautiful,” Elara murmured, her voice barely disturbing the quiet. “To think of all the stories held within these stones.”

Elias nodded, though his attention was caught by a flicker of movement at the edge of his vision. A shadow, darker than the natural gloom of the ruins, detached itself from the sun-baked walls. It was too quick, too deliberate to be a stray tourist or a local farmer. A prickle of unease crawled up his spine.
