The Truth Unbottled
Under the influence of the calming scent, Liam's bravado fades, replaced by confusion and regret. The amplified emotions recede, revealing his true, insecure self.
The air in the garden, once thick with the cloying sweetness of amplified desire, now felt like a gentle sigh. Liam stood blinking, his shoulders slumping as if a great weight had been lifted, or perhaps, a false one had finally dissolved. The defiant swagger that had encased him moments ago had evaporated, leaving behind a bewildered young man whose eyes, now clear, searched his parents' faces with a dawning horror.
"What... what happened?" he stammered, his voice raspy, so different from the booming pronouncements of just minutes before. He looked down at his hands, flexing his fingers as if they belonged to someone else. "I... I don't remember..."
His mother, her face etched with a pain that had been growing deeper with each passing hour, stepped forward hesitantly. Her usual warmth was there, but it was tinged with a profound sadness. "Liam, darling," she began, her voice trembling slightly. "You... you were not yourself."
