Chapter 15
The Power of the Remote
Andy lunges for the remote and presses a button. A vortex of light emanates from the TV screen, pulling at the cartoon characters. Pinky and Snakey struggle, their sinister smiles replaced with panic.
Andy’s heart hammered against her ribs like a frantic drum solo. The remote control, that magical gateway to a thousand worlds of cartoon fun, lay tantalizingly close on the coffee table. Pinky, her once-beloved pink square, and Snakey, the slithering serpent she’d always found so charming, were now monstrous caricatures of themselves, their eyes glinting with a malice that curdled Andy’s stomach. Crystal Lizard, bless his perpetually dazed little reptilian heart, was bouncing off the walls, a whirlwind of nonsensical giggles and flashing colors, completely oblivious to the genuine terror unfolding around him.
"Just… just go back in the TV," Andy whispered, her voice trembling, not that any of them seemed to hear her over their own cackling. Pinky was circling her, her square body somehow managing to ooze menace, while Snakey hissed and coiled, his forked tongue flicking out with disturbing frequency. Crystal Lizard, meanwhile, had discovered the joy of skittering up the curtains, leaving a faint trail of rainbow glitter in his wake.
Andy knew, with a sudden, cold certainty, that this wasn't a dream. This was real. And the only thing that had ever brought Pinky and her pals back to their proper place was the power of the remote. She’d seen it happen in countless episodes when a character went too far, when the narrative needed a swift reset. A specific button, a flash of light, and poof! back into the animated ether they’d go. But which button? Her mind raced, a jumble of cartoon logic and real-world panic.
