Chapter 14
Crystal Lizard's Distraction
As Pinky and Snakey near the TV, Crystal Lizard starts juggling Andy's action figures, creating a diversion. This allows Andy to inch closer to the remote, hidden beneath a cushion.
The hum of the television had always been a comforting sound to Andy, a gentle lullaby that accompanied her favorite characters. But tonight, that hum felt more like a menacing growl. Pinky and Snakey, her beloved cartoon companions, were no longer confined to the glowing screen. They were here, in her room, their once friendly faces contorted into chilling sneers. Andy’s heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird. She’d managed to evade their initial lunge, scrambling behind the sofa, her eyes darting between the two escaped villains and the precious remote control, now tantalizingly close. It lay just out of reach, peeking out from beneath a plump, floral cushion.
Pinky, a shocking pink rectangle with disproportionately large eyes, slithered closer, her drawn-on smile stretching wider than any smile should. "Oh, Andy," she purred, her voice now a low, grating rasp, so different from the cheerful chirps she usually made. "Don't you want to play? We have so much fun planned."
Snakey, a coiled green serpent with beady black eyes, hissed, his tongue flicking out with unnerving speed. "Yeah, Andy! We're going to make your room the most exciting place ever!" He gestured wildly with his head towards her bookshelf, where a few of her favorite action figures stood proudly. "Let's start with some… redecorating!"
