Andy’s heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird. The cheerful, bouncy music that usually filled her room was now a frantic, discordant jumble, a soundtrack to her utter terror. Pinky, the pink square who was supposed to be her best cartoon friend, and Snakey, the slithery, giggling friend, were real. And they were out. They were in her room, and they weren't smiling their usual happy cartoon smiles anymore. Their smiles were wide, too wide, stretching across their square and serpentine faces with a chilling, unnatural glee.

Andy remembered the episode where Pinky had been so excited about a new set of rainbow chalk, she’d forgotten all about Snakey’s birthday. That was it.
