The wind howled, a mournful lament that whipped Angelo’s cloak about his shoulders and stung his eyes with a spray of salt and grit. Below him, the familiar, verdant canopy of his homeland was being swallowed by a creeping, unnatural darkness. It wasn't the gentle fade of twilight, but a hungry, suffocating gloom that leached the color from the trees and silenced the birdsong. The Elder’s words, once a hushed prophecy, now echoed with the terrifying clarity of impending doom. “The Shadow Blight,” he had called it, a creeping corruption that fed on life itself. And Angelo, clutching the warm, pulsing heart of the Sunstone, was the only bulwark against it.

He stood on the highest precipice overlooking the valley, the artifact a beacon against the encroaching night. Its light, a golden effervescence, pulsed in rhythm with his own heartbeat, a comforting counterpoint to the rising dread in his chest. He had faced beasts, navigated treacherous ruins, and outwitted cunning rivals, but this… this was different. This was a fight for his home, for every soul he had ever known. The Sunstone hummed in his palm, a silent promise of power, but also a heavy burden. He remembered the whispers of its might, the legends of its transformative energy, and the chilling tales of those who had been consumed by its brilliance. His own past failures, the specter of that ill-fated expedition, clawed at the edges of his resolve. Could he truly wield this power, or would it, like so many things, slip through his grasp?

A guttural roar ripped through the wind, a sound that vibrated in Angelo’s bones. From the heart of the encroaching darkness, a colossal form began to coalesce. It was not a creature of flesh and blood, but of shadow and despair, a twisted mockery of life. Tendrils of inky blackness snaked out from its amorphous body, probing the edges of the light, seeking to snuff it out. This was the Shadow Blight made manifest, a physical manifestation of the encroaching corruption. Its eyes, if they could be called that, were twin pinpricks of malevolent crimson, burning with an insatiable hunger.
