The Hunt for Survival
Luna devises a daring plan, using her senses to outwit Shadowfang's scouts and locate a hidden den of prey. The pack must work together, trusting her lead implicitly.
The wind, a biting, icy blade, tore through the skeletal branches of the ancient trees, carrying with it the gnawing emptiness of hunger. Days had bled into weeks since the last successful hunt, and the once plump bellies of the pack were now hollow echoes of their former selves. Luna shivered, not entirely from the cold that seeped into her fur, but from the heavy silence that had fallen over their den. Even Elder Rowan, usually a bastion of calm, wore a worried furrow between his wise, amber eyes.
“The deer have vanished,” muttered Bramble, his voice raspy, as he nudged a meager pile of frost-covered berries with his nose. “The rabbits are scarce. And the scent of the river’s fish is lost beneath the ice.”
A collective sigh rippled through the gathered wolves. Luna’s heart ached for them, for the young pups whimpering with hunger, for the elder wolves whose strength was fading. She remembered Rowan’s lessons, his gentle paws nudging her forward, his voice a low rumble of encouragement. “The pack’s strength,” he’d said, “is in its unity. And its survival, in its adaptability.”
