Kenneth’s heart hammered against his ribs like a trapped bird. The air in the room, though seemingly still, felt charged with an unseen energy, a palpable tension that prickled his skin. Beside him, his two colleagues stood frozen, their faces pale masks of fear, their eyes wide and unblinking as they stared at the creature. It was a thing of unsettling stillness, an absence of motion that was more terrifying than any aggressive stance. Its gaze, fixed solely on Kenneth, was like a physical weight, pressing down, demanding something he couldn’t yet comprehend.

The silence stretched, taut and suffocating, until the creature finally stirred. Its voice, when it came, was not the guttural roar they might have expected, but a low, resonant hum that seemed to vibrate in their bones. "Take the bags," it said, its gaze unwavering from Kenneth's. "Four of you, four bags. They are enough."

Kenneth blinked, the words echoing in the strange, quiet chamber. Enough for what? A wave of unease washed over him. He glanced at the four brown bags hanging on the wall, their simple shapes stark against the otherwise unremarkable door. They looked ordinary, mundane, yet the creature’s insistence on them felt loaded with unspoken significance.
