Chapter 1
The Celestial Vision
Kenneth, a devout servant, dreams of a pristine ten-floor building by a flawless river. He's a housekeeper in this peaceful vision until darkness falls, the river churns, and a mysterious figure emerges, changing everything.
The air in Kenneth’s small room was thick with the scent of old paper and the quiet hum of the night. Sleep, when it finally claimed him, was not a gentle descent into unconsciousness, but a sudden, disorienting plunge. He found himself standing, not in his familiar, humble dwelling, but in a place of impossible beauty. Before him rose a building, a magnificent structure of ten stories, crafted from what seemed to be pure, shimmering crystal. It stood pristine, unblemished, its facets catching an unseen light and scattering it in a thousand dazzling rainbows. Surrounding its base, a river flowed, its waters so clear, so flawless, that they mirrored the sky above with perfect fidelity. The entire scene pulsed with an aura of profound peace, a harmony so complete it settled deep within Kenneth’s soul.
In this dream, he was not Kenneth, the devoted servant to the Most High, but a caretaker, a humble housekeeper. His hands, usually calloused from prayer and simple labor, moved with a gentle grace as he tended to the crystalline walls, polished the floors that gleamed like frozen water, and ensured every corner of the building radiated the same serene perfection. He shared this tranquil existence with two others, colleagues whose faces he couldn’t quite recall in the waking world, but whose presence was a comforting constant in his dream-life. They moved with a quiet purpose, their tasks mirroring his own, all contributing to the silent symphony of this sacred place. The days, or what felt like days in the timeless expanse of the dream, were filled with a quiet joy, a sense of purpose that transcended the ordinary.
But dreams, like the waking world, are subject to change, and this idyllic peace was not destined to last. A shift, subtle at first, began to creep into the edges of his vision. The sky, once a boundless azure, began to darken, a bruised, ominous purple seeping in from the horizon. The flawless river, the very source of the place’s serenity, started to stir. Its placid surface rippled, then churned, the clear water losing its pristine quality, darkening and becoming murky. A wind, unnervingly cold and carrying the scent of damp earth and something ancient, began to blow, and it seemed to emanate from the disturbed waters.
Kenneth and his two companions paused in their tasks, their movements slowing, their gazes drawn to the unsettling transformation of the river. The water continued to roil, coalescing into a deeper, more turbulent pool. And then, something began to emerge from its depths. It was not a gentle rise, but a forceful push, a disruption of the natural order that sent a tremor through the very air. Astonishment, quickly followed by a prickle of fear, washed over them. What was this thing, rising from the heart of their peaceful sanctuary?
Later that night, or what felt like the dead of night within the dream’s strange temporality, the disturbance intensified. The lake, now a swirling vortex of dark water, began to heave and churn violently. The sound of its unrest was a low, guttural rumble that seemed to vibrate through the very foundations of the crystal building. Kenneth, along with his two colleagues, stood frozen, their eyes wide with a mixture of fear and morbid fascination, watching the spectacle unfold.
Then, with a final, explosive surge, a figure broke the surface of the water. It was a man, or at least, it appeared to be a man, but his form was indistinct, cloaked in the darkness of the churning water. His face was a blur, a featureless void that defied recognition, yet it held an unsettling intensity, a gaze that seemed to bore directly into Kenneth's soul. A profound sense of unease, a primal fear, gripped him. He felt a desperate urge to flee, to retreat from this unknown entity that had so abruptly shattered their peace.
“We need to go,” Kenneth whispered, his voice barely audible above the roar of the water. His colleagues, their faces pale and etched with terror, nodded wordlessly. They turned, stumbling back towards the safety of the crystal building, their hearts pounding against their ribs like trapped birds. But as they reached the entrance, a chilling realization dawned. The man from the lake was not content to remain in the water. He was coming for them. With a fluid, unnatural grace, he moved from the riverbank, his indistinct form gliding towards the open doors of the building, an unwelcome shadow entering their sanctuary.
Inside the crystal building, the air was suddenly charged with a palpable tension. The man from the lake, though no longer submerged in water, still carried an aura of dampness and something ancient, something deeply unsettling. He followed them, his silent presence a constant, unnerving weight. They moved, a tight knot of fear, through the pristine halls, their footsteps echoing with a desperate urgency. They ascended, floor by floor, starting from the first, then the second, and so on, their eyes darting back, expecting at any moment to be overtaken by the shadowy figure.
Up they went, through the echoing chambers of the crystal edifice, each floor a testament to its serene beauty, yet now tainted by the intrusion. The first, the second, the third, the fourth, the fifth, the sixth, the seventh, the eighth, the ninth – each level passed under the silent, watchful gaze of their pursuer. He remained close, an unnerving proximity, yet he did no harm. No physical threat materialized, but the psychological pressure was immense, a suffocating blanket of dread. Finally, they reached the tenth and final floor. The man from the lake was still with them, his presence a chilling testament to the unraveling of their peaceful dream.
The tenth floor was a vast, open space, bathed in the same ethereal light that illuminated the rest of the building. Fear, however, had dulled its beauty, turning it into a stage for their impending doom. They stood, huddled together, their eyes scanning the room, searching for an escape, for any sign of reprieve. Kenneth’s gaze, however, was drawn to a particular spot on the wall. There, an ordinary door, unremarkable amidst the crystalline splendor, stood set into the wall. And beside it, hanging on four sturdy hooks, were four plain, brown bags. They seemed so out of place, so mundane, in this otherworldly setting.
As Kenneth stared at the door and the bags, the man from the lake, who had been a silent, unnerving presence behind them, shifted. He turned his indistinct gaze, not towards the colleagues, but directly at Kenneth. It was a piercing stare, a silent communication that sent a shiver down Kenneth’s spine. Then, a voice, a resonant sound that seemed to emanate from everywhere and nowhere at once, filled the room. It was the man from the lake, speaking for the first time.
“Grab the bags,” the voice commanded, its tone carrying an inexplicable authority. “There are four of us. They are enough for each one.”
Kenneth looked at his colleagues, then back at the bags. A strange sense of compulsion, a subtle nudge from the dream itself, urged him to obey. He reached out, his hand trembling slightly, and took one of the bags. His colleagues, their fear momentarily overridden by this unexpected instruction, followed suit, each securing a bag.
“Now,” Kenneth said, his voice gaining a newfound steadiness, a flicker of courage ignited by the cryptic command, “let’s try the door.” He approached the ordinary door, his hand reaching for the handle. To his surprise, it turned smoothly, and the door swung inward with a soft click, revealing not another room, but an entrance to something entirely unexpected. He stepped through, his colleagues close behind him. The creature, however, remained on the other side, a silent sentinel at the threshold.
The sight that greeted them was breathtaking. They had stepped into an entirely different world, a realm of vibrant color and boundless joy. Before them stretched fields of golden wheat, swaying gently in a soft breeze. People, dressed in garments of every imaginable hue, worked the fields, their movements synchronized with a melodic singing that filled the air. Children, their laughter like tinkling bells, played in the distance, their faces alight with pure, unadulterated happiness. Babies, nestled safely in the arms of their parents, gurgled with delight. It was a world where joy, happiness, humbleness, unity, and above all, love, were not just ideals, but the very fabric of existence. Tears welled in Kenneth’s eyes, a profound sense of overwhelming peace washing over him. This was paradise, a sanctuary of pure bliss.
But their peace was short-lived. As they stood marveling at this wondrous world, a shadow fell over them. They turned, their hearts sinking, to see the creature from the lake standing at the edge of the field, a chilling contrast to the vibrant life around them. He was no longer indistinct; his form was clearer now, a hulking, menacing figure, watching them with an unreadable expression. He stood about twelve meters away, a silent observer, yet his stillness was more terrifying than any overt threat. A sense of unease, a foreboding that had been lurking beneath the surface, intensified.
Then, the creature’s countenance changed. The blank, unreadable expression contorted, contorting into a mask of pure malice. His eyes, now visible, burned with a cold, calculating fury. A primal scream ripped through the air, not from the creature, but from the people of this idyllic world. Panic erupted. The singing ceased, replaced by shouts of terror. “Run!” they cried, their voices laced with fear. “Run to your homes!”
Chaos ensued. The people scattered, fleeing in all directions, their vibrant garments a blur against the golden fields. Kenneth and his colleagues were caught in the panicked rush, swept along by the tide of fleeing souls. He looked around, disoriented, his heart hammering against his ribs. He couldn’t see his friends anymore, lost in the swirling vortex of fear. Where was he supposed to go? The idyllic world had dissolved into a nightmare.
He found himself running, his legs pumping, across the open field. He chose a straight path, a desperate attempt to outrun whatever unseen terror was pursuing them. A glance over his shoulder sent a jolt of pure terror through him. The creature was behind him, its form radiating fury, its movements no longer fluid but driven by a raw, unbridled anger. And then, before Kenneth’s astonished eyes, the creature’s body began to transform. Its form rippled and contorted, its shape shifting with a horrifying speed. It was becoming a rhino, its massive, horned head lowered, its powerful legs churning the earth as it charged, faster than any rhino should be able to move.
Kenneth ran faster, his lungs burning, his legs screaming in protest. The rhino thundered behind him, its roars echoing across the field, a terrifying symphony of destruction. It gained on him, its massive frame closing the distance with alarming speed. He could feel the ground tremble with its approach. Despair began to set in. He was exhausted, his thirst a burning agony in his throat, his body failing him. The rhino was closing in, its shadow falling over him.
Just as he felt he could run no further, just as the creature’s hot breath seemed to be on his neck, he spotted it – a narrow opening, a tiny slit in the earth, a trench barely wide enough for him to fit. With a desperate surge of adrenaline, he threw himself into its dry, dusty embrace. He landed hard, scraping his knees and elbows, but he was hidden. The trench was long, stretching into the distance, silent and abandoned. He burrowed deeper, pressing himself against the dry earth, holding his breath.
About five minutes later, the earth above him vibrated with the thunderous impact of heavy footsteps. The rhino was running directly over the trench, its powerful form a terrifying presence just inches above him. Kenneth squeezed his eyes shut, sweat beading on his forehead, his body trembling uncontrollably. He was trapped, yet unseen. The creature, despite its immense power, couldn’t find him. After what felt like an eternity, the thunderous footsteps receded, moving away, leaving behind a profound silence. He dared to open his eyes, his heart still pounding a frantic rhythm against his ribs.
He remained hidden for what felt like an hour, the silence a balm to his frayed nerves. Slowly, cautiously, he peered out of the trench. The rhino was gone. He looked up at the sky, which had once again begun to darken. In the distance, a colossal mountain, its peak wreathed in smoke, stood silhouetted against the ominous sky. And then, a miracle. A great flock of mighty eagles, their wings spanning the heavens, descended from the sky. They circled the mountain, their keen eyes fixed on something unseen.
Suddenly, the eagles, a united force of feathered fury, swooped down. They attacked. Kenneth watched, mesmerized, as the eagles engaged in a fierce aerial battle. But their valiant efforts were in vain. The creature, it seemed, had transformed again. Its form shifted, contorting and growing, its seven heads emerging from the shadows, a terrifying seven-headed dragon. It roared, its breath a torrent of fire, and with a few powerful swipes of its colossal wings, it scattered the eagles, defeating them. A cry of despair escaped Kenneth’s lips. “We are doomed,” he whispered.
As if summoned by his despair, another sight emerged. Below the mountain, a vast army camp was revealed. Soldiers, clad in armor, stood ready, their ranks filled with tanks, helicopters, and all manner of war machines. The war began. The soldiers unleashed their arsenal upon the dragon, their weapons firing with a deafening roar. The dragon retaliated, spewing flames and unleashing its monstrous power. But the soldiers, despite their might, were unable to defeat the beast. Then, the ground beneath them began to churn. Floods of burning mud erupted from the earth, engulfing the battlefield, consuming everything in a fiery inferno. Kenneth screamed, a primal sound of absolute terror. “We are all doomed!”
Just as the fiery mud threatened to engulf him, a blinding light enveloped him. A powerful, celestial force lifted him, cradling him as if he were as light as a feather. He looked up and saw it – a mighty crystal eagle, its form radiating a divine strength, its gaze filled with compassion. It was a celestial being, a beacon of hope in the encroaching darkness. It carried him away, soaring upwards, towards a spiritual realm, leaving behind the chaos and destruction. As he ascended, a profound truth settled within him, a whisper from the heavens: “Heaven rules, and no one can change that. Amen.”
