During the fire, a section of the floor collapses, revealing a hidden chamber. Elara ventures in and finds an ancient skeleton clutching a jar of corrupted earth. She retrieves it, and the chapel timbers crash down around her. Kael pulls her out just in time. The fire ends, and the village gathers as Elara presents the evidence, finally proving her story.
5. 5Chapter 5: The Second TrialElara, Kael, and Sera face the cracked jar of corruption. Sera reveals the oracle is her mother and that the corruption was a failed experiment by an ancient elder. They perform a purification ritual using nightshade and Kael's blood, but the vapor coalesces into a shadowy figure that speaks, revealing the final secret: the plague is not a disease but a trapped consciousness seeking release.
6. 6The Hollow OakElara and her companions excavate the mill floor at dawn, discovering a hidden crypt beneath. The sarcophagus is empty, but a message from the mage leads them to the dead tree on the hill—an ancient oak struck by lightning during the storm. They find a hollow opening at its roots, revealing a downward passage. The chapter ends as they prepare to enter, with the crow landing on the tree as a guide.
