Outside, the October sky was a bruised purple, the kind that promised a crisp, cold night. But inside his small workshop, a different kind of chill had settled. It was the chill of a secret too vast, too dangerous to comprehend. Eliza, her brow furrowed in concentration, leaned closer, her breath misting the air between them. The hum of the server rack in the corner was a low, steady thrum, a stark contrast to the frantic beating of Temide’s heart.

“Are you sure about this, Eliza?” he whispered, his voice barely audible above the gentle whirring. “If Volkov’s people find out we’re trying to access their core system…” He trailed off, the unspoken threat hanging heavy in the air. The Octopush. The name itself felt like a cold, slimy tentacle wrapping around his thoughts.

Eliza’s fingers danced across the keyboard, a blur of motion that spoke of years of practice and an innate understanding of the digital world. “We have to, Temide,” she said, her voice firm, though a tremor of apprehension ran beneath the surface. “Marius’s information was too important. They’re not just manipulating readings; they’re creating a false narrative. They’re building towards this ‘default panic’ they’ve been talking about, and if they succeed, it won’t just be our town that goes dark. It will be the whole world.”
