The rhythmic hiss of the ventilator was a familiar lullaby, a counterpoint to the sharp, metallic clink of instruments as my team moved with a grace born of countless hours spent in this sacred space. Sterile blue gowns, crisp scrub caps, and the distinct green of our gloves formed a synchronized ballet around the operating table. Sunlight, filtered through the reinforced windows of Operating Room 7, cast an ethereal glow on the sterile blue drapes that concealed our patient, a young woman whose life now rested in the steady hands of fifteen-year-old physicians.

"Suction, please," I murmured, my voice a low, steady current in the focused atmosphere. Juni, her brow furrowed in concentration, expertly maneuvered the suction tip, clearing the field with practiced efficiency. Her movements were always so precise, so economical. Cat, standing to my left, adjusted the retraction, her gaze unwavering. Charlie, on my right, held a fine-tipped forceps, ready to assist with the delicate dissection. My surgical team—Juni, Cat, Charlie, our four surgical techs, six scrub nurses, two anesthesiologists, and four circulating nurses—were the best in the business. We had to be. There was no room for error when the world had entrusted its health to us.

We were deep into a complex laparoscopic myomectomy, the removal of fibroids from the uterus. It was a procedure I’d performed dozens of times, a routine dance of precision and knowledge. But today, something felt… off. A subtle discord in the symphony. The patient’s bleeding, usually manageable, was proving stubbornly persistent, a dark bloom spreading across the sterile blue field faster than we could control it.
