Chapter 6
Whispers of the Void
The shadow creature draws strength from their fear and discord. Elder Elara watches, knowing the creature feeds on imbalance. Mia and Rylee must master their inner fears and trust each other completely to overcome the darkness within.
The air in the arena crackled, not with the usual sparks of elemental magic, but with a chilling stillness. A hush fell over the gathered crowd, a collective breath held as the shadowy form writhed and pulsed at the center of the dueling circle. It was a void made manifest, a hungry darkness that seemed to drink the very light from the world. Mia felt a shiver, not of cold, but of a primal fear that clawed at the edges of her mind. This was no ordinary opponent, no rival to out-maneuver or out-power. This was… nothing. And that, she realized with a sickening lurch, was terrifying.
Beside her, Rylee stood as rigid as a stone statue, her eyes wide and fixed on the shifting silhouette. The usual spark of defiance in her gaze was replaced by a flicker of apprehension. Mia could feel it, a subtle tremor that ran through the very ground beneath their feet, a resonance of their shared unease. The Shadow Creature seemed to feed on it, its form growing a fraction more defined, a subtle undulation of its tenebrous mass.
Elder Elara, perched on her observation platform, watched with an unnerving calm. Her ancient eyes, usually alight with gentle wisdom, held a gravity Mia had never seen before. She knew. Elara knew what this creature was, and why it had appeared. A whisper, barely audible, escaped the Elder’s lips, carried on the wind that had suddenly begun to swirl around the arena. “It feeds on discord. On fear. On the imbalance within.”
