The air in the grand ballroom, usually smelling faintly of beeswax polish and ancient tapestries, suddenly crackled with an energy almost as effervescent as the Queen’s own laughter. A scroll, tied with a ribbon the color of a summer sunset, had just been unfurled by a flustered Sir Reginald, his usually neat silver hair looking as if a flock of startled doves had nested there.
