Elara walked through the village, her steps lighter than they had been in weeks. The heavy cloak of doubt that had clung to her seemed to be fraying at the edges, letting in slivers of warmth. Old Man Hemlock, usually gruff and solitary, was carefully mending a broken fence for Widow Gable, his weathered hands moving with surprising tenderness. Little Lyra, who had been so scared during the recent storms, was now humming a cheerful tune as she gathered berries, her bright ribbons a cheerful contrast to the muted earth tones of the village.
