The air vibrated with a nervous energy, a low hum that Anya felt deep in her bones. It wasn't just the thrum of her own heart, a frantic drum against her ribs, but the collective anxiety of the forest. Gloom Corp’s machines, those metal beasts that gnawed at the edges of their world, were closer than ever. Anya crouched beside Kaelen at the edge of the ancient grove, the scent of pine and damp earth filling her nostrils, a comforting balm against the rising fear.

Kaelen’s golden eyes, usually pools of ancient wisdom, held a flicker of urgency. He nudged Anya’s hand with his muzzle, a silent question. Are you ready?

Anya nodded, her gaze sweeping over the gathered creatures. Squirrels chattered from high branches, their bushy tails twitching like question marks. A family of deer, their coats the color of dappled sunlight, stood poised, ears swiveling. Even the usually shy rabbits, their noses twitching, were clustered near the undergrowth, their white tails like tiny flags of defiance. Elder Willow’s presence was a gentle pressure, a whisper of encouragement that brushed against Anya’s mind like a silken thread. They are listening. They are ready.
