Chapter 5
A Pact of the Wild
Kaelen shares ancient wolf lore with Anya, teaching her to interpret their needs and fears. Their bond deepens, forging a silent alliance.
The air in the clearing hummed with a different kind of quiet, one that settled deep into Anya’s bones like the moss on the ancient stones. It wasn't the absence of sound, but the presence of something ancient and vast. Kaelen, his coat the colour of twilight shadows, sat before her, his amber eyes holding a wisdom that seemed to stretch back to the very roots of the oldest trees. He was not merely a wolf; he was the heart of the forest, beating with a rhythm Anya was only just beginning to understand.

They tear at the earth, and the scents of home are being washed away by the harsh tang of their breath.”
Anya nodded, her heart aching with a familiar pang. She had seen the machines, their monstrous metal jaws chewing at the edge of the woods, their ceaseless noise a jarring discord against the forest’s symphony. The wolves, once bold and present, had become fleeting shadows, their presence felt more in the rustle of leaves than in the bold tracks they left in the dew-kissed earth.
