The Alpha's Gaze
Anya encounters Kaelen, the magnificent Alpha wolf. He senses her unique connection and, through shared understanding, implores her to help his pack.
Anya’s heart always beat a little faster when she was deep within the whispering woods. The rustle of leaves underfoot was a familiar song, the scent of damp earth and pine needles a comforting embrace. Today, however, a new melody threaded through the usual symphony of the forest – a low hum of unease, a prickle of fear that seemed to emanate from the very trees. It started subtly, a tremor in the air, a nervous chatter from the squirrels, a sudden hush from the birds.
She’d followed the winding deer paths, drawn by an instinct she couldn’t quite explain, deeper than she’d ever ventured before. The sunlight dappled through the canopy, painting shifting patterns on the mossy ground, but the warmth felt a little less bright, the shadows a little more pronounced. Gloom Corp. The name itself tasted like ash on her tongue. She’d seen their trucks, heard the distant rumble of their machines encroaching on the forest’s edge, a gnawing wound on the wild.
Then, she saw him.
