The air hung thick and heavy, not with the usual scent of damp earth and pine needles, but with something alien and metallic, a stark contrast to the ancient breath of the forest. Gloom Corp’s relentless machines had gnawed away at the edges of Anya’s beloved woods, leaving behind raw wounds of churned soil and splintered trees. The wolves, once bold spirits that danced in the moonlight, had grown skittish, their familiar paths now fraught with the rumble of engines and the harsh glare of artificial lights. They are afraid, the thought bloomed, clear and distinct, not in words, but in a feeling, a raw emotion that was undeniably the fox’s. Anya nodded, a silent promise. “I know,” she whispered, her voice barely disturbing the stillness. “I’m trying.”
