The air in the clearing crackled, not with the usual hum of insects and rustling leaves, but with a tense, electric silence. Anya stood firm, her small frame a determined silhouette against the towering, metallic intrusion of Gloom Corp. Before her, Mr. Silas Thorne, a man whose suit seemed to absorb all light and warmth, surveyed the scene with an expression of impatient disdain. His eyes, like chips of polished obsidian, flicked from Anya to the imposing machinery, then back again.

“Young lady,” Thorne’s voice was smooth, yet carried the unmistakable edge of finality, “this is a construction site. Not a playground. I suggest you return to wherever you came from and leave the grown-ups to their work.”

Anya’s heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic drumbeat against the encroaching silence. She could feel the forest’s unease, a low thrumming beneath her feet, a desperate plea echoing in the rustle of leaves. She had spoken to the Elder Willow, felt its ancient sorrow, and the whispers of the wolves, sharp with fear, had been a constant ache in her mind. Now, facing Thorne, she felt the weight of every creature, every root, every drop of dew in this threatened sanctuary.
