The rain had stopped, leaving behind a world washed clean and glistening under the hesitant dawn. Alex traced the condensation on the windowpane of the small diner, the lukewarm coffee in her mug doing little to warm the chill that had settled deep within her bones. Liam sat across from her, his gaze steady and kind, a silent invitation to speak.
