Elara and Lois finally speak, their conversation filled with honesty and a shared sadness. The unspoken words of their friendship are finally acknowledged.
The air in Elara’s room felt thick, heavy with the scent of forgotten summer days and the unspoken words that had stretched between her and Lois for weeks. Sunlight, usually a cheerful visitor, slanted through the window in dusty beams, illuminating the quiet tension that had settled over their friendship. Lois sat on the edge of Elara’s bed, her hands clasped tightly in her lap, her gaze fixed on the worn rug. Elara perched on her desk chair, the familiar coolness of the wood a stark contrast to the warmth that used to flow so easily between them.
“So,” Elara began, her voice a little too bright, a fragile attempt to pierce the silence. “Maya said you wanted to talk.”
Lois nodded, a small, almost imperceptible movement. Her eyes, usually so clear and direct when meeting Elara’s, flickered to the window, then back to her hands. “Yeah. I did.”
