The Door That Remains
Anya and Lena are left in the Void-Eater's realm after Elias sacrifices himself to become a prison. They are pulled back to the Unmaker's heart, where Vesper explains Elias is now a door—eternal but reachable. They decide to guard him and the golden city, but a new crack appears in reality, and they hear Elias's voice, faint but alive, telling them to follow him through a new rift.
The silence that followed was worse than the screaming.
Anya’s ears rang with the echo of her own voice, raw and broken, calling a name that no longer answered. She was on her knees in the gray dust, the golden key still clutched in her hands, its light dimmed to a faint pulse—like a heartbeat far away.
Lena stood frozen, her fists clenched, her jaw tight. She stared at the place where Elias had been, where the door inside him had opened and swallowed him whole. The air still shimmered, a thin scar of light where the rift had sealed shut.
