The biting wind, laden with the icy spray of the churning floodwaters, whipped at Alexander’s face as he finally brought his car to a halt. The headlights, weak beams against the encroaching gloom, illuminated the hulking silhouette of Moon Industrial Works. It stood like a forgotten titan, its corrugated metal skin slick with rain, its windows dark, vacant eyes staring out at the drowned world. The silence that had fallen over the place, a stark contrast to the storm’s fury, was more unsettling than any noise could have been. He’d expected activity, the hum of machinery, the clang of metal, something to justify the secrecy, the fear that had clung to his family’s name like damp rot. Instead, there was only emptiness, a profound, echoing void.

He killed the engine, the sudden quiet amplifying the drumming of rain on the car’s roof. The air inside the vehicle was thick with the scent of damp wool and Alexander’s own anxious breath. He’d driven for hours, the flooded roads a treacherous, winding path that had tested the limits of his resolve. Each mile had brought him closer to this place, this monument to his family’s unspoken history. He was an heir to a legacy he didn’t understand, a legacy guarded by silence and veiled in a mystery that seemed to grow larger with every passing day.

Stepping out of the car, the water lapped at his ankles, a cold, insistent reminder of the world’s surrender. He pulled his collar tighter, the wind tearing at his coat. The main entrance was a colossal steel door, rusted and immobile. He circled the building, the rain plastering his hair to his forehead, his boots sinking slightly into the sodden earth. He found a side door, a smaller, less imposing portal, and to his surprise, it yielded with a groan of protest.
