The storm hadn't abated. If anything, it had intensified, the rain now a relentless torrent, the wind a mournful shriek that clawed at the aging structure of Moon Industrial Works. Alexander had finally reached it, the imposing silhouette of the factory a jagged scar against the bruised sky. It stood on a small rise, an island in the encroaching floodwaters, a place that had always felt more like a myth than a tangible entity. His family had built it, had poured their lives and fortunes into its foundations, yet they spoke of it only in hushed tones, their eyes clouding with an unspoken dread.

He killed the engine, the sudden silence amplifying the drumming of the rain. The car’s headlights cut through the gloom, illuminating a scene of desolation. Weeds choked the cracked concrete of the parking lot, their tendrils snaking around rusted machinery. The air hung heavy with the scent of damp earth and something metallic, something that prickled at the back of his throat. This was it. The place that held the answers he’d been chasing for months, the place that had consumed his thoughts, his dreams, his very existence.

With a deep breath, Alexander pushed open the car door, the wind immediately snatching at his coat. He stepped out, his boots sinking slightly into the sodden ground. The factory loomed before him, a behemoth of corrugated metal and darkened windows. It was eerily quiet, no hum of machinery, no distant shouts of workers. It was as if the entire place had been abandoned, left to the mercy of the storm and the rising tide.
