The Happiest Moment

As they clean up the workshop, Pip and Lily realize their shared adventure and the happiness they helped create was, in itself, an extremely happy time.

The hum of the time machine had faded, leaving behind the familiar, comforting clatter of Professor Pip’s workshop. Dust motes danced in the afternoon sunbeams slanting through the high windows, illuminating a scene of delightful disarray. Gears and sprockets lay scattered like forgotten jewels, wires snaked across workbenches, and the air still held a faint, lingering scent of medieval roasting meats and something vaguely floral, like wilted roses. Professor Pip, his usually wild white hair even more so, was meticulously polishing the gleaming chrome of the time machine’s control panel with a soft cloth. Lily, her cheeks still flushed with the lingering excitement of their adventure, was carefully stacking away the strangely patterned goblets they’d “borrowed” from the feast.

“Well, Lily, my dear,” Professor Pip said, his voice a gentle rumble, “that was, dare I say, an extremely happy time!” He beamed, his eyes twinkling behind his spectacles.

Lily paused, a goblet halfway to its shelf. “It was amazing, Uncle Pip! Sir Reginald Grumbles, of all people! I never thought we’d actually manage to make a knight laugh. And Flikker! He was even sillier than I imagined.” She giggled, remembering the jester’s acrobatic tumble that had finally cracked Sir Reginald’s stony face into a bewildered grin.
