Lily traced the swirling patterns of frosting on the last slice of cake, her fingers sticky with sugary delight. The echoes of laughter from the medieval feast still buzzed in her ears, a vibrant symphony that had replaced the usual hum of her uncle’s workshop. Even the air in the time machine, as it settled back into its familiar whirring silence, seemed to carry the faint scent of roasted meats and spilled ale. Professor Pip, his perpetually disheveled hair even more so after their whirlwind adventure, was already tinkering with a dial, muttering about temporal resonance and the unexpected buoyancy of medieval merriment.

But Lily wasn't quite ready to dive back into the organized chaos of her uncle's inventions. She held onto the feeling of the feast, the sheer, unadulterated joy of Sir Reginald’s booming laugh once Flikker had finally returned. It was a different kind of happiness than the quiet satisfaction of a perfectly calibrated cog or a precisely soldered wire. This was a wild, untamed happiness, the kind that spilled over and touched everyone, even a grumpy knight.

She found a discarded piece of parchment near the control panel, its edges singed from a close encounter with a rogue sparkler during the jester’s grand finale. Unfurling it, she smoothed it out on her knee. Her uncle, lost in his calculations, wouldn't notice. With a stubby pencil she’d pocketed from the feast’s surprisingly well-stocked dessert table, Lily began to sketch.
