A tremor ran through the ancient roots of the Whispering Woods, a disturbance felt not by the earth, but by the very essence of joy that pulsed within its depths. High in his obsidian tower, where shadows clung like damp moss, Morthos the sorcerer stirred. His eyes, twin embers of malevolence, flickered open, sensing a new light attempting to bloom in the world – a light he had spent centuries trying to extinguish. Elara, the village girl with the whispered map, was on the path. And Morthos would not have it.

He extended a skeletal hand, fingers like gnarled twigs, and a tendril of darkness slithered from his tower, weaving through the air, seeking the source of this burgeoning hope. The forest, usually a symphony of rustling leaves and chirping creatures, seemed to hold its breath as the sorcerer’s influence began to seep in, a subtle frost on the edges of perception.

Elara, guided by Silas’s cryptic counsel and her own burgeoning courage, pressed onward. The path, though no longer the gentle incline of the previous day, was still discernible, a faint thread of light weaving through the deepening woods. The air grew cooler, the sunlight struggling to penetrate the thick canopy. A peculiar silence had fallen, the usual chatter of birds and rustle of unseen life conspicuously absent. It was a silence that pricked at the edges of Elara’s awareness, a subtle unease settling in her stomach.
