He was lost in a reverie, a quiet contemplation of the Empress’s last smile, a fleeting, almost imperceptible curve of her lips that had ignited a fire in his chest. He felt a profound sense of peace, a fragile bubble of happiness he had fought so hard to cultivate.

Suddenly, a sharp, piercing whistle sliced through the tranquility. It was a sound utterly alien to the court, a herald of violence and discord. Bai Long’s pearlescent eyes snapped open, a flicker of alarm disturbing their usual serene depths. He tensed, his powerful form coiling instinctively.
