Khepri sat cross-legged on the cool, smooth floor of the Great Library, the air thick with the scent of ancient papyrus and dried lotus. Sunlight, filtered through stained glass depicting celestial barges, painted shifting mosaics on the walls. At first, they had been terrifying, the chaotic manifestations of a world unmoored. Now, he saw them as glimpses into the true nature of things, the vibrant, interconnected tapestry that Isis, in her drive for singular order, was trying to weave into a single, unyielding thread.
