Chapter 11
Ra's Hidden Spark
Khepri discovers he holds a secret spark of Ra's original creative force. This realization empowers him, giving him a direct connection to the fading deity.
The air in Khepri’s small chamber felt thicker than usual, not with the dust of ancient scrolls, but with a strange, humming energy. He sat cross-legged on his woven mat, the discovered papyrus lying open before him. Its edges, brittle with age, seemed to glow faintly, as if holding a memory of sunlight. The forgotten name, a series of symbols that danced and shifted before his eyes, had indeed been spoken, and the world outside his window – a world of impossibly vibrant colours and silent, slow-moving processions – had subtly, irrevocably changed. Ra’s golden reign had softened, and Isis’s cool, blue gaze now seemed to hold the sky.
Yet, within Khepri, something else was stirring. It wasn't just the fear that tightened his chest or the wonder that widened his eyes. It was a warmth, a gentle, persistent thrum that felt as ancient as the pyramids themselves. He traced the scarab beetle amulet he always wore, a gift from his mother, and felt a faint echo of that same warmth emanating from within him. He had always felt a connection to the sun, a deep, instinctive pull towards its life-giving power, even as it waned. Now, he understood why.
He remembered a dream he’d had years ago, a dream of being bathed in a light so pure, so potent, that it felt like the very breath of creation. He had dismissed it as the fancy of a young scribe, a mind filled with tales of gods and pharaohs. But now, the feeling from that dream was returning, not as a fleeting memory, but as a tangible presence within his own being. It was a spark, he realized, a tiny, hidden ember of Ra’s original, vibrant force.
