The roar of the crowd, a symphony of cheers and anticipation, usually reverberated through my very bones, fueling my spirit. But today, it was a distant hum, muffled by the sudden, searing agony that ripped through my leg. One moment, I was mid-stride, connecting with a delivery that felt perfect, the ball arcing towards the boundary with a satisfying thwack. The next, a blinding flash of pain, a sound that still echoes in the hollow chamber of my memory – a sickening, unnatural crack – and I was on the ground, the world tilting on its axis.

It happened so fast, a brutal punctuation mark to a game that had always felt like an endless, exhilarating sentence. The roar of the crowd faded completely, replaced by the frantic thumping of my own heart, a desperate drumbeat against the encroaching silence.
