Chapter 7
Shared Skies
A sudden downpour forces Rein and Valerie to take shelter together. In the quiet, confined space, they share a conversation that goes beyond business, touching on dreams and pressures.
The sky, which had been a brilliant, unwavering blue just moments before, suddenly bruised with an ominous grey. A low rumble, like a distant, discontented giant, vibrated through the air. Valerie, always impeccably prepared, always one step ahead, even of the weather.
She pulled up alongside me, her car a dark, silent predator against the storm’s fury. The driver’s side window glided down, revealing her profile, sharp and defined against the rain-streaked glass. Her expression, even in the dim light, was unreadable, the usual mask of cool control firmly in place.
