A Designer's Return
Rein is hesitant but intrigued. The offer, coupled with Valerie's more sincere approach, reignites her passion for architecture. She decides to accept, cautiously optimistic about this new path.
The crisp morning air always did wonders for my lungs, a welcome change from the stale, pressurized atmosphere of closed-door meetings. Even now, months after I’d hung up my drafting pens, the scent of fresh ink and vellum seemed to linger in my memory, a phantom limb of a life I’d almost completely severed. Almost.
Valerie’s offer had landed in my inbox like a perfectly aimed shuttlecock, swift and unexpected. “Revisit the blueprints,” it’d read, followed by a terse, “VS Company requires a fresh perspective. Your original vision, refined.” It wasn’t the effusive praise I’d once craved, not even close. It was a business proposition, couched in the same cool, efficient language that had once sent shivers of disappointment down my spine. Yet, there was something different this time. The accompanying voice message, a rarity from her, had been less glacial, a subtle tremor of something akin to regret softening the edges of her usual pronouncements.
“Rein,” she’d said, her voice a low hum, “I… I was too hasty. The initial designs had merit. I see that now. This project is… important. I believe you can deliver.”
