Chapter 12
The Anchor Found
In her new home, surrounded by the beauty of her flourishing garden and the warmth of her own choices, Fifi finally finds her anchor. She is loved, she is strong, and her future is as bright as her parents' love.
The scent of damp earth and honeysuckle, a perfume far sweeter than any Aunt Mildred had ever worn, filled my lungs. It was the breath of my own making, this air, spun from the dreams I’d nurtured in secret and the courage I’d finally found. Inside the box, nestled on faded velvet, lay a locket, identical to the one my mother always wore, and a single, smooth, sea-worn stone. The stone pulsed with a faint warmth in my palm, a tangible echo of the storm, of the night I’d discovered their last message.
