Chapter 8: The Unbinding
Adam cannot sleep before the dawn departure. Eve instructs him to unbind Sarah's magic using his merged wolf-wizard instincts, which he successfully does. Then both mothers train him in combat techniques combining his dual natures. At dawn, the group sets out for the Obsidian Vale, but Samael intercepts them, warning that the faction has set a trap at the Heartwood Blossom.
Adam could not sleep.
The cushions in Eve’s chamber were soft, woven from moonflower vines that gave off a faint lavender scent, but every time he closed his eyes he saw his father’s face—a man he had never met, waiting in a dark vale with poison eating through his veins. Beside him, Lily had curled into a ball and was breathing evenly. Sarah sat by the window, staring out at the two moons.
Eve entered silently, her starlight robes brushing the floor. She nodded to Sarah, then looked at Adam.
