Chapter 29
Adam and Eve reveal their most powerful forms and defeat the Silent One. He claims he cannot be killed, so Adam uses his alpha voice to seal him in crystal until the end comes. Eve explains that only Jesus can defeat the Antichrist. The battle ends, and they leave the valley, but Adam hears a faint whisper that the web is not undone.
The wave of black energy crashed against Adam’s shield. Gold and green light flared, holding, but the force drove him back a step. Ally’s hand pressed against his spine, steadying him. Eve’s silver energy threaded through his, and Kael and David added their own strength. The shield held, a dome of woven light against the void.
The wave receded, and the Silent One lowered his staff. The obsidian dais gleamed wetly in the twilight that had settled over the circle.
“You are strong,” the Silent One said. His voice was calm, almost admiring. “But strength born of love is fragile. Love cannot protect you from the inevitable.”
