After escaping to the Cronwell estate, Eve reveals the Silent One is the Antichrist, a deceiver. She explains Adam must master the five elements with Kael's help, then reveals Lily is a vampire. The family prepares for the coming conflict as the Silent One's presence is felt.
The group followed the bound leader back through the dark corridor. The torchlight flickered behind them as they climbed toward the grove. Adam supported his father, Kael's weight leaning heavily on him, but each step seemed steadier than the last. Sarah walked on Kael's other side, her hand gripping his arm. Lily stayed close to Gabriel, who kept his flames low but ready.
They emerged into the Heartwood grove. The morning air was cool, the sky still dark with the last hour before dawn. The bound leader stopped at the edge of the grove and pointed toward a moss-covered archway half-hidden behind hanging vines.
“The gate,” he said, his voice still flat.
