The Price of Obedience
Adam demands the Pure Blood leader take him to his father. When the leader refuses, Eve casts an obedience spell that compels him to lead them to a hidden chamber where Kael lies dying from Poison Oak. Grandmother's voice instructs Adam to lay hands on his father. Adam's prince form blazes forth again, and he uses origin magic to heal Kael, saving his life. As the family reunites, Kael reveals a new threat: a prince called the Silent One, who claims to be the eighth prince, is gathering the others. The group prepares to escape before the faction rallies.
The leader's sneer faltered as Adam's wings blazed. The Pure Blood leader straightened, defiance hardening his face. “I do not answer to fledgling princes.”
Eve stepped forward, her staff striking the ground once. The sound rang through the grove like a bell. “Then you will answer to the first of the first.” She raised her hand, and violet light coiled around her fingers. “Word of Binding: by the threads of the origin weave, I compel obedience.”
The leader's eyes widened. “No—you cannot—” The light shot from Eve's palm and struck his chest. He froze, his limbs stiffening. His mouth opened, but only a strangled gasp emerged.
